DigiHost to Change to Nuclear Power

In an article from WGRZ, North Tonawanda residents have expressed growing concerns over the Digihost cryptocurrency mining facility on Erie Avenue. Issues include persistent humming noises and significant greenhouse gas emissions, reportedly sufficient to power 11 cities the size of North Tonawanda. In December, Digihost proposed addressing these environmental impacts by transitioning from natural gas to nuclear reactors by 2031. This plan has raised new worries among residents about potential nuclear waste and its effects on the community. In response, Mayor Austin Tylec announced a proposed law to prohibit nuclear reactors within city limits, aiming to prevent Digihost’s planned transition. A public hearing on this legislation is scheduled for Tuesday at City Hall, with expectations of its passage.
